i'll take the vended curry pork
So, I don’t know if you know this or not, but vending machines are kind of a big deal in Japan.  I referred to this on an earlier post about that touch-screen vending machine in Tokyo’s Shinagawa Station that takes your profile with a built-in camera and suggests a drink based on your appearance. Here it is below: But the average vending machine looks a little ancient by American...

first day in chiba
One of the first things Anna Claire and I did on the morning after we arrived in Tokyo was sit in on our friend Brent’s English class. We had a lot of fun and met a few interesting people.  We had lessons in this tiny church space that is about the size of a living room. It’s in a place called Makuhari New City which is located in Chiba within the Tokyo Metro Area. It’s called...

WatchWatch
This is in honor of our friend Brent Kooi. He’s serving short-term through MTW in Tokyo. Sorry, Brent, for taking the creative license of showing everyone on the entire world-wide interweb your deluxe bathroom. Too bad the bidet was broken… So, as great and efficient as this uncanny invention may seem…I still haven’t found the courage to brush my teeth with this water.

this guy is everywhere
I seriously don’t know what to make of this guy. I don’t know what’s scarier, the muscles mixed with the cigarette, the shaved legs, or the hot pants. Who is this person?! He kind of reminds me of Bruce Willis…

shirley temple
Anna Claire and I stumbled across this temple on a bike ride in Nagoya. It’s kind of out of place in this modern city and sits up on this hill by the interstate.  More photos to come!

100 Yen Shop
Lookie what I found today (and bought): The best part is the description. “Men’s Disposable Panties: We’re just a heart beat away One touch could make it happen We can reach the other side if we hold on to the passion.” On the back it says: “DO NOT DUMP IT TO TOILET” I absolutely love this place.

zombie land
i think this adequately sums up our flight to japan   saying goodbye to the ‘rents before we fly out Sleeping in Hartsfield = not really sleeping. I think every janitor in Atlanta was working in Hartsfield that night.       we made it to Narita Airport! Our big fatty double-decker plane in the background. Flying that long makes you a zombie. But it’s totally worth...

we're going to japan!
Some supporters of ours graciously donated their SkyMiles to us and are sending us to Japan for two weeks! We’re flying United Airlines. I was hoping we’d get a guy as funny as this dude, but at the end he says ’ you will not get that on United Airlines, I guarantee you.” We’ll be visiting Tokyo, Nagoya, and Kyoto! Tokyo, Japan Nagoya, Japan ...

Japanese Officials Reveal Execution Chambers
I know this isn’t the cheeriest subject, but it’s kind of fascinating. The NY Times recently did this article on how Japan implements capital punishment. They still hang people!   The execution chamber, noose ring, and trap door The Japanese government opened up its execution chambers to the public for the first time on Friday, taking journalists on a tour of Tokyo’s main gallows....

it pays to be a sumo
BBC just posted this story entitled:  “Fat-fingered sumo wrestlers given iPads” “Fat-fingered sumo wrestlers, unable to tap the keys on a standard mobile phone, are being given iPads to help improve communication.” “Many Japanese newspapers also reported that the iPad had been chosen because of its large touch-screen keys that can be easily prodded by...

the breakdown
So here’s a bookmark we made to make things simpler to understand. It’s overwhelming to think of how much money we have to raise to get to Japan and seems like you can’t help us out with all the zeros. So, we are looking for 175 faithful people who can help us out. Would you consider being one of those people? All we need is: 100 supporters @ $25/month 50 supporters @...
